6 Stories in 6 Weeks

Some people give up sweets or Facebook for Lent. I like to issue myself a challenge. Some years, I force myself to exercise. Some years, I commit myself to learning new guitar chords. Some years, I just try to be a better person (with mixed results). This year, I realized that if I seriously want to be a writer, I have to be serious about writing.

I want to develop some discipline. At first, I thought I could write a story every day (40 Days; 40 Stories had a nice ring to it), but quickly dismissed it as insane. Yes, I want to write every day, but I want to write something good and you can’t rush quality. So, instead I settled on writing a story per week from now until Easter. That’s six weeks away. Six stories in six weeks.

I think I can do it. It will require focus and bribery and maybe a few sleepless nights at the keyboard. But if that’s what it takes to get out of this creative rut, I’ll do it.

Six stories in six weeks? Challenge accepted.
